Price Categories for Binoculars

Astronomy is a demanding application for astronomy - the optics must be great or you will be disappointed with the results. Everyone has a budget, so here are the three major price categories for astronomical binoculars.

Budget Beginner Binoculars

In the $100-$150 price range for beginners, only the Bushnell 7x50 Legacy and Bushnell 10x50 Legacy binoculars are acceptable quality for astronomy.

Mid-Range Serious Amateur Binoculars

In the serious amateur range between $200-$500, 7x50 and 10x50 binoculars from Nikon, Fujinon, Celestron, and Carton Optics work well for astronomy.

High-end Professional Binoculars

In the serious professional range of $1,000 and more, binoculars from Leica, Zeiss, Swarovski provide exceptional performance and quality. Also in this range are giant binoculars and image-stablized (IS) binoculars from Canon and others.
